Chart of the month

I like U.S. data. There is a lot more of it than in Canada and is easily accessible from many sources. 

Here is a "big picture" of interest rates in the U.S. for the last 50 years or so.

In the following chart, note the peak in U.S. interest rates in 1981. Note where we are today. Note the difference.

As Canadian interest rates generally follow U.S. interest rates (with a lag) I have observed recently that 5 year Canadian GIC rates often move in a similar direction( with a lag) to the 10 year U.S. bond yield.
