What's the problem with Best Buy?

Although the article speculates about a number of reasons regarding the decline of the big box electronics stores, I think the article misses an important point. The reason why I stopped frequenting these stores is that every time I was there, I was assaulted by armies of enthusiastic salespeople armed with clipboards. The intent of the clipboard is to sell you high margin extended warranties which you may not necessarily want or need. I suspect fellow shoppers dislike the hard sell approach which conflicts with the store’s philosophy of no high pressure commissioned salespeople.
I've noted that almost 1/4 of the store space is devoted to large screen, flat panel television sets. This section of the store is eerily quiet and vacant. As most everyone has already upgraded to a flat screen perhaps that market is saturated and I suspect sales are stagnating. In an interesting attempt to diversify, the new music instrument section also looks to be sparsely populated too.
The center of activity is the computer section which is astonishingly small for the size of the store. A feeding frenzy of back-to-school shoppers (I am writing this in early September) surrounded by hungry, over eager clipboarders is reminiscent of a scene from Jaws (the movie): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucMLFO6TsFM
A mother and daughter elbowing their way through the crowds told me that their shopping experience for a new laptop for school was a frustrating one after the advertised model was evidently not available and out of stock.
Attention: All store managers! Turn down the volume! Do all the TVs, stereos and ghetto blasters have to be on at max volume. Turn it down a bit! And please get rid of those annoying security alarm sirens that continually go off every few seconds.
Apparently, increasing numbers of shoppers seem to prefer the store’s on-line web experience over the brick and mortar experience.
Ahh..peace and quiet with nary a clipboard in sight.
